Linda Osorio 475-4001 ext. 7652 The Autistic Program at Belvidere is designed to meet the individual needs of each student in the class. Whereas there are certain characteristics common in autism, each person is unique and the methods used in our classroom reflect this. While academics are an integral part of the program, the main focus is on the social and communication skills each student will need for a successful transition in becoming active members of their community. We focus on engaging the student’s attention, building relationships, and encouraging communication. The academic portion of the program is aligned with each of the nine content standards of New Jersey. Specific grade levels vary depending on each individual’s learning abilities, strengths, weaknesses, goals, and objectives to make their classroom experience as beneficial as possible.
