The Health Office

Beth Hendershot RN, BSN - (908) 475-4001 Ext. 6689

The health office is a place where a wide range of activities take place.  The children will come in for various illnesses from headaches to stomachaches.  The health office is where your children will have an annual health screening which includes measurement of height and weight, vision and hearing screenings.  Keeping children healthy and helping them manage any chronic diseases is the goal of the health office.

Please remember to discuss with your physician your child’s immunization status.  It is recommended but not required that children receive two doses of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.  The first dose can be administered from 12-15  months of age and a second dose from ages 4-6 years.  Children who are older and received the vaccine when it first was administered can and is recommended receive a second dose of the vaccine due to cases of chickenpox.

There have been some changes to the immunizations required in the state of New Jersey.  In January 2008, the Department of Health and Senior Services now requires every student born on, or after January 1, 1997 and entering or attending sixth grade on or after September 1, 2008, shall receive one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis), no earlier than the 10th birthday.

Another new requirement for this same age group (any student entering sixth grade in September 2008) is the meningococcal vaccine.  Students entering sixth grade in September are required to receive one dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine.

If you do not have health insurance or cannot afford your child to receive these required immunizations, please call the Warren County Public Health Agency at (908) 689-6000.  There are programs that can help with assistance of Well Child Checks and immunizations.

Please notify the school nurse with any changes in your child’s health or medications.  It is very important that the nurse has the most recent information.
