		| Back to Guidance | Intervention and Referral Services (I & R S) Purpose Flow Chart of Services Parent Referral Form   A. Purpose The Belvidere High School I & RS Team was established to implement a system in the high school for the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services that are designed to assist students who are experiencing learning, behavior, or health difficulties.  The I&RS team provides a mechanism for addressing problem to ensure students’ academic success.  However, it is not intended to supersede traditional methods or resources for helping student to function effectively in the general education program.   The I &RS team is focused on concerns with students, and the end result of I&RS activities is student improvement.  It also serves as a system of supportive activities and services for staff who have identified student difficulties and those who will be involved in the amelioration of identified educational concerns.    A multidisciplinary team is at the core of the coordinated system of I&RS services.  The process brings together representatives from all professional constituencies in a school to support staff in helping student grow is essential for effective problem solving.    (Reference: Resource Manual for Intervention and Referral Services published by the New Jersey Department of Education/Division of Student Services/Office of Program Support Services) B.
