Practical Arts

School phone: 908-475-4025 ext. 7631 - School email: epoandl@belvideresd.org Introduction to Industrial Arts is an 18 week course providing an introduction to the world of woodworking. The student experiences many hands-on principles and procedures related to woodworking. Safety is highly stressed. The course is designed as a foundation for the student to build upon in future years or as general knowledge to broaden one’s background. Advanced Machine Woodworking is a full year course concentrating on the safe use of various woodworking machinery and equipment; wood project planning; finishing procedures; and other activities and procedures associated with woodworking. Furniture Making is a full year course that follows the logical order of the design and construction process. Instruction on preparing sketches, drawings, computer renderings, and procedural plans provide the student with a solid woodworking design foundation. Students will learn the how, what, why, and when of selecting the appropriate materials whether they are fine hardwoods, softwoods, manufactured panels, or plastics. Furniture Making also covers the procedures and techniques of fine cabinet making. The safe use of hand, power tools, and machines is thoroughly covered. As the course guides the student through the process it shows how their decisions will affect their final project and lead to success in this course of study. Residential Construction is a full year course concentrating on basic carpentry skills and fundamentals of construction. Students will learn to read and interpret technical drawings used in the construction process. Practical construction problems are solved through assigning projects that benefit the school community. Introduction Technical Theater is an 18 week course in which students will acquire the basic technical skills required to stage a theatrical production. Students will be involved with the problem solving needed to design and construct a public theatrical production. They will work on individual and group projects. The students will develop the required skills to work safely with tools and materials in the theater. The class will be involved in the spring musical and will work to improve the school theatrical equipment and facilities. Suggested websites to browse. |
