This course emphasizes the fundamental laws and theories of chemistry including: the metric system, significant digits, matter and atomic structure, chemical bonding, the periodic table, chemical reactions and equations, oxidation/reduction, gases and solutions. Scientific notation, the use of conversion factors and problem solving are also stressed. Laboratory exercises are designed to reinforce and enhance the subject matter covered in lecture.

The source of topics for this course are determined by the General Chemistry 1 course at Warren County Community College. General Chemistry 1 is the first half of a two-semester course, which is required for all Associates in Science programs at the college. Students earn 7 credits through BHS for this course.
