"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."-Thomas Jefferson
My name is Mr. Coyle and I am a Social Studies teacher here at Belvidere High School who is currently teaching United States History 1, United States History 1 (Honors) and United States History 2. I have been teaching here since the 2002-2003 school year and have taught in addition to the above mentioned classes, Behavior Science 1, Behavioral Science 2, and Psychology (College Level). Currently, I am also the Assistant Girls Soccer Coach (Junior Varsity Girl's Soccer Head Coach), "Kitchen Cabinet" (Political Debate Club) facilitator, and have also previously been involved with the Floor Hockey Club. It is my philosophy and assertion that History is a story and that is what History class is and should be. As a teacher I am a salesman with History as my product, and the students as my consumer. History is important because it is the story of who we are as a people which is indicative of where we are going via where we have been. Our ends and means are most appropriately defined by the quote which follows, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." -Thomas Jefferson
