Touchdown
On October 9, the biggest home football game of the year will commence. Don't miss a moment of it!
As
summer came to an end, my first
week of high school came quickly: new faces, friends, classes, teachers
and more.
I walked into Belvidere High School with a confidence for new
surroundings.
Coming from Harmony Township, a small school of just three hundred people, and with only forty-one in my grade, I was ready for some big changes...
It’s one thing to get lost in the small hallways of your hometown elementary school, but when you get overwhelmed with nervousness about the first week or so in High School, getting lost in smaller hallways with more people is scary. It seems like just yesterday that we were the rulers of our small schools. Now we’re like ants in an ant hill the size of Mount Everest. As I watch the older kids roaming through the hallways I think “Well, they made it through high school so why can’t I?” Yet every Friday, or as the inconsiderate seniors like to call it, “Freshmen Friday”, I still think someone is going to beat me up. Then there’s that one name I haven’t really gotten used to yet, “Frosh”. I guess it’s better than “Fresh Meat” but it’s still one of the many weird things I’m going to need to get used to this year....
Having a good read so far? I know
you’ll enjoy the new paper, just as I enjoyed putting it together. Make no
mistake, it’s been a long arduous process to get The Scarlet Scoop running the
way I wanted it....
The 2009-2010 school year has already offered new beginnings and it’s only September. Not only do the freshmen have to find their way around the packed hallways, but a new addition to the staff does as well. Upperclassmen won’t just find intimidated ninth graders roaming the school, but they will see the face of a new administrator: Mr. Christopher Halloran. He was voted interim principal in late August, replacing Mrs. Lelia Pappas....
This summer I took a cruise to Saint John, Canada. The cruise line we took was Carnival, and I went with the people from my church. The boat was docked in New York Harbor, so we had to take a bus from the Phillipsburg Mall to the city. Before we got on the boat, the crew took our bags to check for anything suspicious, and since our rooms were not ready, we relaxed and walked around the ship. The ship was very large with about twelve stores, a casino, three night clubs, and a theatre. When my family and I finally got our room, we realized it was only set up for three people, but we needed....
The smell of freshly-cut grass, the home bleachers disappearing in a sea of red… that’s right, football season is back. And as a member of Belvidere’s marching band, I’ll have the privilege to attend every football game, home or away. From what I see, the team is off to an excellent start. On a rainy Friday night the defense nailed South Hunterdon’s offense and gave the Seater offense excellent position drive after drive, shutting the Eagles out 38-0. Last week Roselle Park’s offense....
Mrs. Angela Merrick has joined the staff from Phillipsburg High School, where she formerly taught physics. Here she will again be teaching physics, along with physics honors, environmental science, and the freshmen class Principles of Science. Surly you have heard her name or maybe caught a glimpse of the petite woman, who has overtaken Dr. Kaiser’s room for a good part of the day....
These past two years I attended Notre Dame Catholic High School for my freshman and sophomore year. I went to White Township Consolidated School and decided to try something different, and my parents also encouraged me to explore my options. There I was freshman year, my very first year of high school and knowing absolutely no one, but I went in and made tons of new friends that will last a lifetime. I had to adapt to all of the new expectations of this school; it was not only private but it was Catholic, and I basically had to relearn how to behave....
