Senior year, two words filled with so many more: emotion, stress, relief, and anticipation are just a few. Numerous responsibilities cloud our minds from day to day. From filling out applications to making sure our grades stay up, we all are pressured by the thought of leaving our sheltered high school life and going to college. Fortunately, there was a refreshing break from it all....
Jack Pierone sat down with executive officers Arran Gross, Alexis Mattei, and Lauren Lucas to get some insight into the world of student government, and to find out what they have planned for us this year!
Halloween is always a fun filled night in the streets of Belvidere. Children from the time they can walk till, for some, their high school years, engage in this “sweet” pastime. It is always great fun to be able to dress up as something far from what you are perceived as, and all the candy is an added benefit to the night. Some wait all year for this night while others, for their own reasons, let it pass by as if it were any other....
For the last few years, October has simply come and gone for me. I never understood the purpose of Homecoming, or the enthusiasm that many students show during Spirit Week. It was all something that simply passed me by, a mere whisper in the wind. Like many students, I was eager to get home and enjoy the weekend before another hectic school week commenced....
Nowadays most teenagers can be found in front of the TV filling their minds with mindless drabble and playing a game on that console they know to love. However, why can’t those very people give themselves a break from that all consuming world and pick up a book? There are so many novels out there that one can enjoy, but how do I as the reader choose one?
At the end of Spirit Week, in order to pump the school up for the Homecoming game that night, a pep rally was held. The first pep rally was sometime in September, but compared to this one, that pep rally was nothing. The one in September led me to believe that pep rallies in Belvidere were going to be lame and not as fun as I thought they would be, but this one proved me wrong. It was not only a spirit booster, it was an entertaining show bound to make people laugh and join in....
The crazy costumes, hall decorating, fund-raising, and many more school-wide activities made Spirit Week 2009 a wonderful experience for all of the staff and students here at Belvidere High School. Spirit Week began Monday, October 5th and lasted through Friday, October 9th with a different activity for every day in-between....
Senior year is a hard year, no matter how you look at it. Some cannot wait to be out of Belvidere, while others are biding time, not wanting to leave close friends and the comfort of home nestled in our little town. Others still are torn and just don’t know what they want. Some days I sigh happy to be almost done, while other days I wonder if I really am sure of what I want or where I want to go. How does someone who is not even considered an adult yet make decisions that are shaping her years of adulthood?
